Tremors (1990)
Tremors
I wasn’t sure if this was gonna be a good movie or not, but it was actually extremely good. The whole premise of the movie is pretty frightening, and the design of the graboids is pretty scary. I love having a movie where the alien/monster antagonist isn’t in sight, and you only see it right before it tries to get you. I actually spent several minutes thinking about how terrifying it would be to have a giant man eating worm living beneath your feet, and they always know where you are. It really makes you wonder about everything that’s underneath the ground, as well as everything that we haven’t discovered yet. Anyways, the story is really good, and it’s definitely one of the best monster movies I’ve seen. The design and practical effects of the graboids was really good, and I loved the way it had tentacles inside its mouth. Because of how awesome it was, almost every second of the movie kept me sucked in, and Kevin Bacon especially helped with that. He had a really good performance, and his character was really fun to watch. In fact, the entire cast was great, and though some of them were a little obnoxious, it all worked out. I also really loved the setting, and it makes the movie so much more scary when it’s set in a small town of only 15 or so people. It gives the feeling that you are by yourself, and you only have one another in order to survive. The music was really good, and it gave the perfect action/adventure feel to this movie. The length of the movie was also perfect, and it didn’t feel too long, and it fit everything that needed to be there. Overall, it was great, and I would definitely recommend it.
