Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Season 1)
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Season 1)
I have been a lifelong Percy Jackson fan. Not just this show and the movies, but more especially the five books. It’s one of my favorite book series ever, and when this show was announced, I was extremely excited. And not only that, but Rick Riordan had a huge hand in its writing and production, so that’s a huge bonus. That being said, I thought the eight episodes of this first season were pretty well adapted. Now, I did get a little upset at times because there were some plot/scene changes that were vastly different from the books, so my inner fanboy died a tiny bit. The majority of it was pretty accurate, but some bits definitely had to be altered from run time and character development. Overall though, the writing was solid. Another thing that was REALLY hard to adjust to was the cast. I’m so used to the cast of the movies that watching this was tricky to get used to. I thought the cast did a solid job, although there were definitely some bits that were a little cheesy. The dialogue was also a little silly at times. Walker Scobell, Lance Reddick, and Edge were the standouts for me. Those three really brought their characters to life. Finally, the music was pretty good, and the special effects were all great, and not always super noticeable. Besides the fact that I was being very picky with how accurate this was, I thought it was well done, and it makes sense for those who haven’t read the books or seen the movies. I’d probably recommend it to most action/adventure fans. This season is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
