The Amityville Horror (1979)
The Amityville Horror (1979)
Definitely one of the more poor horror movies I’ve seen, this felt like a waste of 2 hours. There wasn’t much about it that was good, except for a bit of the acting and the music. The story in itself is cool and full of history, but the way it was filmed was really boring and cheesy. Now it was 1979, so that speaks for itself, but it was still hard to sit through. The actual story that this movie was based on was also used for one of the Conjuring movies, therefore making this movie feel like a cheap and much older version of it. The acting overall was extremely exaggerated and corny, except for James Brolin. He did a really great job, and he was the only character I actually cared for. Margot Kidder was alright, but a lot of it was pretty bad. The dialogue in this movie was also pretty terrible. The music was great, except for one thing: it was literally a knock-off of Psycho. So much of it was basically the exact same, and it basically stole the infamous Psycho shower theme. The rest of the score had the same high strings sound, and though there were bits that were original and unique, the majority felt like a copy. The movie wasn’t scary at all, and there was only one scene that was scary, and it still wasn’t even that bad. I can understand why it might be scary in 1979, but in these times, this movie is just something to laugh at. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it, unless you really like corny horrors.
