Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
I’d say this is probably my second favorite Christmas movie of all time, and I enjoy it even more than the original Home Alone. It’s really hard to beat the first one since it’s such a classic, but I just like this one more. I think the story is better, and the idea of someone getting lost in a huge city is a very real thing. I love the way Kevin roams all of New York, instead of being in his house the whole time. I also really loved the decision to film at the Plaza. One of the reasons I think this movie is better than the first is because of the traps that Kevin sets. They are so much more funny and painful, which makes the movie so much more enjoyable. I also think the characters are better in this one, and the staff of the Plaza are hilarious. I love Tim Curry, so seeing him in this movie is always great. The return of Harry and Marv is also great. I really liked the inclusion of the pigeon lady, and I thought it was a great thing to help advance the story. Many people I’ve met who’ve seen this don’t like her, but her relationship with Kevin helps you realize the deeper message of the movie. Despite all the physical comedy, the movie teaches you to love others, do good, and to look past people’s looks. That’s why I like this one so much, as it has such a beautiful and touching message to it. The score, once again, is absolutely awesome, and John Williams continues his amazing work. A lot of the same music was used from the first one, except for one certain song. It’s called “Christmas Star”, and it’s one of the most beautiful Christmas songs ever written. It has a very hopeful feel to it, and although it might feel a bit sad, it also has a good side. I love it a lot, and every time I hear it, it puts me in a special Christmasey mood. Overall, I would most definitely recommend this movie to all Christmas enjoyers, and I absolutely love watching it each year. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
