Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Mad Max: Fury Road
I’ve always heard this called the best Mad Max film, and I have to say, I do agree. It’s so jam packed with action and excitement, that it’s very hard not to like it. I understand why George Miller isn’t a super big fan of dialogue. Sometimes dialogue is helpful and informative, but in movies like this, I just want the giant trucks and explosions. The story for this one is pretty simple, and very easy to follow along with. It’s definitely more of a visual story. From the very beginning to the very end, there’s constantly something going on, whether it’s an awesome chase scene, or a character driven conflict. The movie presents a beautiful blend of action and story progression. All the action scenes apply to the overall storyline, it’s not just a bunch of random junk like some other action movies. The practical effects, makeup, and sets contribute greatly to that. Even though there is some VFX (which were really good), I love the reliance on practical things. You get a sense of how real everything is on set, and that the stakes are raised. I will say this, though: yes, this is the best Mad Max film, but it’s not my favorite. I still prefer Mad Max 2 better, but not by much. Mad Max 2 was the blueprint. That one walked so this one could run. And that’s my final thought. We’ll see if the upcoming Furiosa changes my mind at all. Overall, this movie is very well made, and even though sometimes it’s a tiny bit overwhelming with the characters and their world, it’s a fun watch. I’d definitely recommend it to all action fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
