Ocean's 11 (1960)

Ocean’s 11

  • As the final review of 2022, this is the perfect one to end the year. I like to watch it each New Year's Eve, because a big chunk of the movie takes place on New Year’s Eve/Day. In fact, if you start watching this movie at 10:31:51 pm, then at exactly midnight, everyone in the movie yells “Happy New Year!” Anyways, this movie has always been one of my favorites, and to me, one of the best crime movies ever made. Most people only know the 2001 remake with George Clooney. But, before you watch that one, everyone should do this first. It’s really hard to beat it, as it has an entertaining and detailed story, with a great cast, and a fantastic score. I won’t say much about what the movie is about, as it’s much more entertaining to watch everything unfold in front of you. But, it keeps you pulled in, and gives you lots of great detail into what happens. It pulls you in from the start, and you definitely stay invested until the very final moment. In fact, the ending of this movie might be one of the best in history. It’s probably my favorite movie ending of all time, only behind Buried. It’s a complete punch in the gut, and not at all what you’d expect. The entire cast is awesome, with notable names such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford, Angie Dickinson, Cesar Romero, and George Raft. Everyone contributes to the story through their roles, and they are all both funny and serious. Plus, almost all of them are very likable. And the score is definitely one of the best ones ever. It has the fun swing sound that matches the setting and story. It also includes phenomenal and very well played songs such as “The Tender Trap”, “Learnin’ the Blues”, and “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head”. Nelson Riddle always does an amazing job with his musical work, and this movie only shows you how talented he is with his music. Overall, this is definitely a movie I’d recommend to all classic movie lovers. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
