Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Believe me when I tell you that when Zack Snyder makes a movie, he makes a movie. This one was actually his first feature film directorial debut, and he did one heck of a job with it. I can honestly say that this is one of the few remake movies that actually worked, and though I still prefer the original Dawn of the Dead, this one was still super good and very well made. There was plenty of action and zombie killing, which was awesome as always. The story, though almost the same as the original, was still unique in its own way. I absolutely loved all the characters, and even the jerky ones were still really fun to watch. I enjoyed Michael Kelly a lot, and though his character was a cruel, control of power guy, I loved his acting. I already like him because of how much of a Braves fan he is, but still, his portrayal was really good. The screenplay, which was done by James Gunn, was also really great. There were so many details and cool shots throughout the movie, and one of my favorite parts about Zack Snyder’s movies is the up close shots of objects. There were several awesome shots of bullet casings and such, and if you liked the sesame seed from ZSJL, then you’ll love the cinematography of this film. The Snyder Slo-Mo was also really enjoyable and well done, and though many people I know can’t stand slow motion shots, I think they’re absolutely incredible. One thing I definitely think people need to see from this movie is the first 10 minutes. It starts out with a calm and regular going society, and within a single, quick transition, the entire world is flipped upside down and changed. It goes from calm to chaos, and it’s actually terrifying. I also loved the ending, because unlike the original Dawn of the Dead, you get to see the character’s journey beyond the mall. You get to see them escape, and the ending is not what you would expect. And to cap it all off, the movie actually continues through the end credits, and it leaves you wondering what actually happens to the characters. Overall, is one of the best zombie movies made, and most everything about it was great (there were some dumb and pointless scenes that didn’t add to the story, but besides those, it was awesome). Plus, it had a phenomenal soundtrack. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
