Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Five Nights at Freddy’s
The critics that gave this a 25% on Rotten Tomatoes are just plain full of it. Because this was a good movie. Was it the best ever made? No. But was it fun? Absolutely. For the months leading up to it, I was very excited for this. I think I got my expectations a little bit too high, but there were definitely a couple disappointments throughout the movie. Nothing that hurts my enjoyment too much, but I can see certain standpoints from a critic perspective. There were some creative decisions I would’ve made differently. I can’t say exactly what for spoiler reasons, but there were just a couple changes I would’ve made. I also don’t think some of the plot points and action scenes were executed in the ebay way. But, there were still a lot of really fun moments, and some really interesting history. What’s also nice is that you don’t have to play the games to understand this movie. You can enjoy just as much whether you’ve played them or not. The animatronics were absolutely freaking awesome, and especially the work that went behind them. They were creepy, yet still eerily wholesome. Also, a certain someone’s suit was straight up horrifying, and also provided one of my favorite movie shots of all time. To sum everything up, the story was good (not great), but the animatronic scenes were fun, and I liked the characters. Oh, and Matthew Lillard needs a nomination for this. Anyways, I’d probably recommend this if you like both serious and campy horror movies, and especially if you’ve played the games. Not as scary as the games, but still good. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
