Bottle Rocket (1996)
As Wes Anderson’s first film, I think he gives his filmmaking career a pretty strong start. There’s definitely some movies of his that are better than this one, as well as a few that I enjoyed more. However, it's still perfect in my eyes. It's interesting because it doesn't necessarily feel like a classic Wes Anderson film, although many bits of it are very much Wes Anderson. I guess I could say it feels like Wes Anderson before he became “iconic” Wes Anderson, if that makes sense. Anyways, it's such a great movie, and like I said, a great directoral debut. It provides so much inspiration for me, especially with how it's so simple, yet so intricate. It's so original and hilarious, while it still has a serious tone to it at times. It’s a great mix of comedy and crime. The cast is what also makes it fun. The dynamic duo of brothers Luke and Owen Wilson create chaos and laughter. Their natural chemistry is perfect for this kind of movie. Overall, the movie was funny, exciting, and daring, and one that I love dearly. I’d definitely recommend it if you like comedies/crime, and especially if you like Wes Anderson (obviously).
