Alien: Covenant (2017)
Alien: Covenant
Unfortunately here’s another poorly made Alien movie. It’s not the worst that’s out there, but it just didn’t feel right to me. There’s quite a few scenes that are absolutely awesome and remind you why the different creatures are so cool. But, there’s also quite a few scenes that feel dragged out and boring exposition. I think the way this movie connects with ‘Prometheus’ as well as the rest of the franchise was pretty good. The way it builds onto the Alien lore is nice. But everything else just doesn't feel natural. The story overall wasn’t super noticeable, and there were a couple moments where I wasn’t sure how the scene was fitting into the movie as a whole. That may have been because I just missed something, I’m not sure. None of the characters really added too much to the story except for David and Walter. Not to say that some of them aren’t important, but I just thought that a good chunk of them were just there, and that was it. No one was memorable in my mind. The cast was great, and the performances were decent, but by the end, it didn’t feel like anyone besides David actually mattered. Michael Fassbender carries the movie. Also, the CGI was pretty bad at times. I’ve seen worse, but it was so noticeable and just didn’t feel natural at all. Sometimes that works in sci-fi movies, but not in this one. But the designs of the creatures were all great. Overall, this movie lacks in a lot of departments, but still provides some pretty fun moments. I think I’ll need to rewatch it at some point to see if I change my mind. I’d only recommend this if you’re a big Alien fan.
