Argylle (2024)
Argylle
I was never too excited to watch this, but I have to say, it was way better than what I was expecting. It’s definitely not the best movie ever, but it was pretty entertaining. I loved the great mix of comedy and espionage, as it reminded me a lot of ‘Get Smart’ or ‘Austin Powers’. It wasn’t very spoofy, I just liked the mood it had. Even though it was fun, I don’t think the story was totally the best. The idea behind everything was pretty good, but even with the long runtime, it still felt kind of cramped. On the plus side, the action and story progression are constantly moving, and there weren’t really any boring breaks. On the downside, it was about 20 minutes too long. I would’ve liked it right at an even two hours. Also, there were several little instances that left me confused and needing to look on Wikipedia to figure out what certain things meant. It wasn’t often, but it did turn me off a little bit. I also thought that some of the twists and turns became overused, although some caught me off guard. Anyways, those are most of my complaints. Everything else was pretty interesting. I loved most of the characters, and even though the dialogue wasn’t always the best, I still liked them. The cast was stacked, and I wish we could’ve seen a tiny bit more of the Cavill/Cena team up. However, the duo of Howard and Rockwell was really cool, and it was fun to watch them go back and forth between friends and enemies. Lastly, the action was pretty decent, much better than what I was thinking it would be. I loved the slow motion, and it was (usually) visually pleasing. Overall, this movie is very slept on, and though I can understand why some people weren’t a fan, I really liked it. I’d recommend it to all spy/comedy fans.
