Meet the Parents (2000)
Meet the Parents
I’ve been wanting to watch this forever, and now I finally got around to it. I love Ben Stiller, and if you know me, then you know that I absolutely adore Robert de Niro. Putting the two of them together was either gonna go really good or really bad. It actually does both, in the best ways possible. Their on screen friction is awesome and awkward, but they do such a good job of it. So, when I say it would go really bad, I didn’t mean bad in the bad way. I meant bad in the good way. That makes zero sense, but it does to me. All the characters were funny, even though there were some that were obnoxious and intolerable. The performances were great. I also had no idea Owen Wilson was in this, so when he showed up, I was ecstatic. He’s one of my favorite people ever. The story in this is classic, and two families (or a boyfriend meeting parents) butting heads is always hilarious. I like how this one has a natural blend of comedy and drama. There are plenty of moments to laugh, but also some moments that are nice and touching. I especially loved the dinner scene and the human lie detector scene. The former is downright hilarious, and the latter is a nice moment between Greg and Jack. Overall, this movie was pretty good, and though it’s nothing spectacular, I enjoyed it, and it was well executed. I’d definitely recommend it to all comedy/drama fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
