Twisters (2024)
Twisters
If you feel it….CHASE IT!!! Man, you don’t know how long I’ve been excited for this movie. It’s funny because when I first watched ‘Twister’ I wasn’t a super huge fan. It was good, but it felt like just another weather movie. However, after seeing the trailer for this one for the first time, I was absolutely locked in. I think it was Glen Powell that really sold it. And now that I finally saw it, I can confidently say that it surpassed all my expectations. The biggest thrill was that the movie didn’t seem to have any slow moments. It felt almost entirely like one long action shot, even though it wasn’t, and there were several different tornadoes. The smoothness and fluidity (is that a word?) of the story and the entire movie itself was perfect. Great pacing and smooth transitions kept it trucking forward with nothing holding it back. The story wasn’t anything crazy, though. It was basically a rewrite of the original ‘Twister’, but with new characters and obviously different events. It was just them tracking and chasing tornadoes, but it was done really well. The characters were chill, and the only ones that really stand out are Tyler and Kate. They steal the spotlight, especially Tyler, but everyone else kind of blended into the background. I was really happy to see David Corenswet, though. The two biggest things that are the most obvious attention grabber were the VFX and the sound. If it were up to me, this movie would be nominated for the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. All the storms and tornadoes were so seamless and looked legitimate. There were so many times it felt like I was sitting in the actual storm with the characters. And the way the sound amplifies the gravity of each situation….it’s what going to the movies is for. This was easily one of the best theater experiences I’ve ever had. Overall, this is the movie of the summer (until Deadpool comes out), and I’d recommend it to literally everyone. Also, shoutout to my boy Benjamin Wallfisch for an amazing score. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now (in RPX or IMAX if you can)!
