The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
The Muppet Christmas Carol
Here it is. The Christmas Carol to end all Christmas Carols. No Christmas Carol will ever top this one, old or new. It’s that simple. I’ve never heard anyone say anything different. Sure, the other iterations might be good, but when you put Michael Caine and the Muppets together, that’s like the equivalent of Martin Scorsese and Robert de Niro. A recipe for success, and nothing else. In fact, this is the greatest version of Scrooge you’ll ever see. Some people like Jim Carrey, some like Scrooge McDuck, but me, I’m a Caineaholic. Michael showed up on set and delivered one of the greatest Christmas performances of all time. He is Scrooge. No debate. Ok anyways, enough about that. I actually don’t have a lot more to say, because of how familiar people are with the story and characters. The movie is pretty true to the book, which I love. And like I already clearly stated, Michael Caine carries this movie on his shoulders like Bob Cratchit carries Tiny Tim. All the Muppets make it so much better too. The mix between humans and Muppets are a great combination, and surprisingly, you learn to take them seriously. The same goes for the soundtrack. There are some songs that are fun to sing along with, and some that are somber and very sentimental. Overall, this is one of the best Christmas movies ever made, and the best adaptation of this famous novel. I’d recommend it to literally all Christmas fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
