Train to Busan (2016)
Train to Busan
I think I’m in the majority when I say this is one of the best zombie movies I’ve ever seen. Granted, I haven’t seen a huge amount, but this one still stands out in a very positive way. I think the biggest reason it’s memorable is because it does a good job of putting focus on relationships and human emotion, rather than just being another cliche zombie flick. It balances the action and drama extremely well, to where you get really invested in the main characters in between the fun stuff. The writing was just brilliant. All the events flow really smoothly, and the pacing is great. It doesn’t take too long to get into the main plot, so you don’t get bored waiting for the good stuff. I loved the design of the zombies, which was honestly very simple, but enough to be freaky. It doesn’t try to overdo it in an outlandish way. You can still see the zombies' physical humanity, even though they are completely gone. The makeup was great. Also, I want to give kudos to all the extras, stunt people, and stunt coordinators. Everyone involved in being a zombie or taking some hard falls/hits deserves a medal for this movie. I admire them. My only complaint is that I occasionally lost focus, though it wasn’t often. I think having to keep up with subtitles was a little tricky. But everything else was fantastic. I’d definitely recommend it to all horror/zombie fans, especially if you like movies such as ‘28 Days Later’ or ‘Dawn of the Dead’ (2004). This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
