Twin Peaks (1990-1991)
Twin Peaks
Bravo, David, bravo. You absolutely knew what you were doing. I think the last time I was this invested in a show was when I binged ‘Breaking Bad’. Being able to come home from work and watch ‘Twin Peaks’ was the highlight of my day. Which shows you the kind of life I have. The pilot alone is one of the best TV pilots I’ve seen in my entire life, and perfectly sets the mood and vibe of the show. Even though the first season is only seven episodes (minus the pilot), it’s still enough to keep you completely captivated. Every single episode has so much detail that drives the story forward, but moves at a slow enough pace to make the suspension last. It takes its time, introducing characters and storylines. Just great pacing all around. Once the first season ends, you’re left grasping for more, and the first half of the second season is arguably the best part of the whole show. It picks up trying to solve who killed Laura Palmer, as well as the several other twists and turns that pop up because of her death. The buildup to the killer's reveal was absolutely masterful. Now, despite the perfect score, I think if I HAD to make a complaint, the last half of the second season is a little slow, and feels a tad bit duller than the first half. The reason being is that once the murder is solved, the whole focus of the show shifts to something that could seem less exciting. I still really enjoyed it, especially the last two or three episodes. The series finale was phenomenal, and left me very shook. My mind is still reeling and trying to put together what I saw. It almost makes me mad because I have so many questions, and no answers. But, the good news is that I still have the Twin Peaks feature film, the deleted scenes film, and The Return. I’m only a quarter of the way through the Peaksverse, and I couldn’t be more excited. Kyle MacLachlan is absolutely awesome and extremely memorable as Agent Dale Cooper, and definitely my favorite performance of his. All the characters were well written, and though sometimes frustrating, you can’t help but like them. The original music was also beautiful and perfect, especially “Laura Palmer’s Theme”. Chills every time. Overall, this show is perfect in every way, with great characters, suspenseful storylines, and just a great experience that itches your brain. I would recommend it to all crime/thriller fans, especially if you like David Lynch project like ‘Blue Velvet’ or ‘Mulholland Drive’. This show is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
