Dead Poets Society (1989)
Dead Poets Society
My first watch of April was certainly an interesting one. It was way deeper than I ever imagined, which was both a good and bad thing. It was good because it’s a fantastic character study, not just for one person, but for everyone. The bad thing about it being deep was that it left me feeling pretty emotional, as the movie deals with very real and very relevant things that are, unfortunately, common in today’s age. But it was a good kind of hurt. Once it is done, you want to take some time for yourself and just reflect on what you saw, and how it matters. The story was beautifully written. Watching the main boys develop with the help of Mr. Keating was really cool, and there were definitely some useful points that you take away from it. Each character was awesome, even if you don’t necessarily like them. The biggest standouts were Ethan Hawke, Robert Sean Leonard, and Robin Williams. Not only were the characters extremely well written, but their performances were fantastic. Sometimes they make you laugh, and others, you feel sad. Just a great job by everyone. There is so much I could say about this, but I don’t want to give too much away. It was just truly amazing, and probably one of the best (and favorite) movies I’ve watched in a while. It’s powerful, emotional, and educational. Plus, the ending scene was one of the best I’ve ever witnessed, and it even made me tear up. I’d recommend this film to all drama fans, especially if you like ‘Good Will Hunting’, ‘The Holdovers’, or ‘Scent of a Woman’. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
