Final Destination 5 (2011)

Final Destination 5

  • This is the fifth movie of this franchise, and it is a significant step up from the previous movie. I was extremely skeptical about whether or not this would be good, based on what I saw in the fourth movie. But, this one was actually mildly enjoyable, as well as having a decent story. Like the previous four films, this one basically has the same story. However, it definitely has its own special spin, though I won’t say what it is. The story takes a turn that you don’t expect, which is what gives the movie its unique take. I definitely wasn’t a fan of any of the characters, as they were all pretty dumb and hard to watch. Much like the other movies, the characters were corny and their acting wasn’t too great. Most of it was just straight cheesy, but that’s what occasionally made it fun. The effects were decent, and they were either good or horrible. You could definitely tell in certain scenes where CGI was present, which usually isn’t always a good thing. There was one specific scene that made me want to bang my head against the wall, and for 2011, it was really bad. But, all the death scenes were actually decently well shot. There was one in particular that I was impressed with, and it was actually very disturbing. The music wasn’t great, and nothing notable was played. The score wasn’t great, but the soundtrack as a whole was somewhat decent. Easily the best part of the movie was the ending. I’d say that this movie has one of the best endings I’ve ever seen in a horror movie, and my mind was pretty much blown. It was enough for my jaw to drop. It was so cool what they did with it, and I’m really glad they did. It ties into the first movie in an insanely awesome way, which is something none of the previous movies did. Overall, this movie was somewhat decent, although it definitely had its bad moments. I’d probably recommend it to those who like this franchise, but if you don’t, then you probably won’t like this movie. I know I probably wouldn’t watch it again, but that ending was absolutely amazing.
