The Fog (1980)
The Fog (1980)
As much as I love John Carpenter, you can tell by my enjoyment score that I obviously wasn’t a big fan of this. I’m not totally sure why I didn’t like it. I think it just felt so random and almost scrambled. Compared to his other masterpieces like ‘Halloween’ and ‘The Thing’, this just seems scattered to me. It was a little all over the place, although it makes sense. I felt like it kind of bounces around in a weird way. But that’s just me. It’s not horribly made or anything, it was just very out there. The story was decent, but not great. I’m probably being a little too harsh, mostly because I’m comparing this to ‘Halloween’ and ‘The Thing’. Comparing this to those is like comparing ‘Batman Returns’ to ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Batman’. Anyways, the story wasn’t great. It was like an episode of Goosebumps or something. The characters were alright, but no one stuck with me. I enjoyed Jamie Lee Curtis and Janet Leigh, but that was about it. The music was really good, with a Halloween-esque sound. Of course, that’s because John Carpenter did both. They are both a little similar, yet still vastly different and unique. Lastly, the special effects in this were pretty good when present. Overall, this movie was decently made, though there are several weaknesses, one big one being I just didn’t like this. I probably wouldn’t recommend it, unless you like John Carpenter or 80s horror.
