Heat (1995)
Heat
This is definitely the best detective/heist movie I’ve seen, as it has a great story, great cast, and great feel. From the very first scene to the very end, the movie is packed full of detail, which helps advance the story in an interesting way. The movie does a great job of getting you hooked, and keeping you hooked. However, despite the awesome story, this movie felt extremely long. Of course, it has a 3 hour runtime, so that's why. I love long movies, and even though it does feel very long, every single scene contributes beautifully to the story. Because it’s so long, and because there’s a lot of detail and characters to keep up with, it could be confusing at some points for certain people. But I thoroughly enjoy it. I mean, it's one of the best written movies I've ever seen. The overall plot could be seen as just another crime movie, but it's so much more complex than that. Not only is the action fun, the but relationships and psychological part of it is just perfect. The actors and characters also help make it very interesting. The movie has a great power trio of Pacino, De Niro, and Kilmer. I enjoyed all of them very much, and there wasn’t a single scene that I hated when they were on screen. I really liked seeing Pacino in the protagonist role, which was a nice. I’ve only seen him in movies where he’s basically a bad guy, so this was a good change of pace. I also liked De Niro, and he keeps his typical villain role. He always makes such an awesome bad guy, and I love all the roles he plays. Kilmer was also great, and it was kind of funny seeing him in his role. I say that because this movie came out the same year as Batman Forever, so seeing him go from Bruce Wayne/Batman to Chris Shiherlis was interesting. Each character added a special element to the movie, and they definitely helped make it what it was. The music was great, and though it wasn’t anything to remember, it really helped escalate the action/climax scenes. It was really fun, and I really enjoyed the score. The action sequences were also great, especially the gunfights and the final chase scene. They were well shot, and entertaining. Overall, I would definitely recommend this movie to all detective/crime movies. It’s definitely long, but very breathtaking. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
