The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
The Strangers: Prey at Night
Horror sequels are usually hit or miss. Some are absolutely great, and some are complete garbage. This one is about in the middle, and much better than I expected. It’s still not great, but not as bad as Rotten Tomatoes is making it out to be. I do have to take away points for originality, because it’s basically the exact same as the first one. There wasn’t any special character development or arcs, and no extra stakes or anything. The masked trio showed up, served, and then the movie ended. There’s a couple different elements from the first, but not much that’s noticeable. All the action scenes were really great, but the acting and story dragged it down. I’ll also say that I liked some references to past horror movies, like ‘Scream’ and ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’. But that was the only stuff that really caught my eye. Overall, this movie is mediocre at best, and that’s being nice. But, it’s not totally horrible, and if you like sequels that were made just to be made, then this is for you. Not one I’d watch again, but it was alright for a one time watch.
