Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Inglourious Basterds
My brain is reeling. I can’t even think straight right now. This movie has left me with a slight headache. But the really good kind of slight headache. The slight headache you get after watching a really good film and you’re just so stunned by how magnificent it was. That kind of headache. In terms of Tarantino films I’ve seen, this is very close to being my favorite. I think ‘Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood’ is probably his best that I’ve seen, but this one may be my favorite. I’ve always loved literally anything related to World War II, so it was cool to see a movie that takes a basis in fact, while still being fictional. It’s a cool blend of fiction merging with history. The story is very simple: killing Nazi’s. However, the amount of detail packed into this is absurd, in an awesome way. The movie is definitely long, as it includes several scenes that seem almost random and very drawn out. But when you look back on it, you realize that they are necessary and create the beauty of the film. That opening chapter alone is enough to be a short film. It’s extremely tragic, but also gorgeous. And that goes for this whole picture. The cast also holds up the movie big time. Brad Pitt was awesome, but the most obvious standout is Christoph Waltz. That man is one of the most talented actors alive. His Oscar for this role was extremely well deserved. Never would I ever have said that I would enjoy watching a Nazi, but every second he was on screen, I was mesmerized. He was just so entertaining to watch. I could write a whole review just on him. Anyways, I’m gonna try to wrap this up. Just a few more things. The soundtrack and score was ridiculously good, and it fits the mood perfectly. Also, the special effects and makeup were also super sweet, which made all the Nazi deaths very fun. Overall, this movie is one of the best of the 2000’s. My only complaint is that it was a little long, but besides that, this was just amazing. Also, hearing all the different languages was super cool. I’d highly recommend it to all drama/action/war fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
