The Equalizer (2014)
The Equalizer
As the first movie of the trilogy, it gives it a decently strong start, and it was definitely one I enjoyed. I will say that there were a few parts that seemed a bit slow and drawn out, so I was a tiny bit bored in certain scenes. But it was still fun and gave the classic action feel. I also liked how many bits of it were very Rambo-esque, which made for a fun time. I always enjoy movies like that, where the main character uses a bunch of different ways to knock off his opponents (like the Rambo series or The Foreigner). The story was pretty good, and I enjoyed the focus on Robert and his abilities. It takes a great approach towards his character. His action scenes were very fun, except to me, sometimes they felt a bit choppy. I think they could’ve been put together a tiny bit better, but what do I know. I liked all the characters, except I’m not a huge fan of the Russians. I feel that Russians are always overused as antagonists, so it didn’t really feel new. But, they were still fun. I really liked both Denzel Washington and David Harbour in their roles. They added a good flare to the movie. The music was pretty solid, but it wasn’t super special. It pretty much felt like your average action/thriller soundtrack. Overall, it was a fun movie, though there were a few weak spots that could’ve been improved. I would recommend it if you like action/thrillers. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
