Chaplin (1992)

Chaplin

  • This movie was really great, and it’s definitely one of the best biopics I’ve seen. I’ve always been a big fan of Charlie Chaplin, and he’s arguably the most important figure in film history. He’s probably my favorite silent film actor, only behind Harold Lloyd. So, being able to watch this movie was a real treat. In terms of casting, RDJ was the absolute PERFECT choice to play Charlie. I wouldn’t want anyone else to have played him. RDJ is a perfect physical match for Charlie, and his mannerisms and movements were so spot on. He also looks a lot like Charlie anyways, which only helped make it better. The story was also really good, and it did a great job of showing his life from beginning to end. The way it follows his life isn’t confusing at all, and it flows together really nicely. The opening shot of this movie (which is the one on the movie poster) is one of the best opening shots I’ve ever seen, period. It perfectly captures what you’re about to see. The ending of this movie is also one of the best endings I’ve ever seen. It’s not often that I find a movie that has both a perfect opening and ending, so that’s why this one was so impressive. Plus, in the end credits, they give you information on what happened to the real life people, which is one thing I absolutely love about biopics. The movie perfectly sums up his life and everything he went through, both in his personal life, and his career. The music was really great, as it helped add a lot of feeling to each scene. Some of it had a 1920’s sound to it, which was perfect, considering what this movie is about. This movie was also beautifully shot, and there were a few scenes that I was absolutely blown away with. I liked how for a few of them, they were filmed in the style of a silent film, which was both genius and perfect. Overall, I would definitely recommend this movie for those who love silent films, as well as those who love learning about the history of film. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
