Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (2012)
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1
I’ve been putting off watching this duology for quite some time, mostly because I really wanted to read the comic first. I always have such a deeper appreciation for a film when I’m familiar with the source material. That is, if the film does justice to the source material. In this case, it does incredible justice, and one of the most accurate interpretations of a comic. It’s literally like the book came to life. Of course, there’s always gonna be a couple minor little details that will change, but almost the entire first part of this duology is so accurately adapted. There are several scenes that are almost word for word. Thank you Warner Bros and DC for respecting the source material. Anyways, the story is awesome and refreshing, as it surrounds an older Batman and his return from retirement. Only Ben Affleck’s Batman comes close to being an old Batman, and you can see the influence this comic/film had on Zack Snyder. The animation is fantastic as always, with character designs that are new yet true to the comic. Again, an older Batman is just so epic. The writing around him is fantastic and realistic, on top of some great Batsuits. The score and sound is extremely impressive, and I constantly found myself getting immersed into the audio aspect of the film (along with the visuals, of course). I’ll save the rest of my thoughts for Part 2 of this duology. I’d recommend this to all DC/superhero fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
