Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
Definitely a bit of a weaker movie compared to the first one, but still very fun nonetheless. It did feel a bit more sloppy than the first one, and that’s also because it throws in time travel, which felt cliche. It didn’t get confusing or anything, it just didn’t feel original. It does fit into the trilogy very nicely, story-wise. It picks up immediately where the first movie left off, which was nice. Like mentioned, time travel gets introduced, in a very comedic and lighthearted way. It wasn’t Endgame or BTTF levels, it was just a campy, fun way to keep the film moving forward. And if you’ve seen any of the Connery Bond films, then you can pick out several little references from those, along with other movies. Of course, Dr. Evil returns, along with several other familiar characters. I was very happy to see Rob Lowe show up as a younger Number Two. Mike Myers kills it once again, along with everyone else. Surprisingly, the exaggerated acting just never gets old. Even though it’s a spoof/comedy, it still feels somewhat serious. The soundtrack was also very supportive to the movie, much like the first one. Overall, this movie is not as good as the first one, but still very fun to sit through. I’d recommend it if you like silly spoofs. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
