The Thing (1982)
The Thing
I didn’t really know anything going into this movie, and I’m definitely glad I didn’t. There were so many scenes and moments that completely catch you off guard, and the less you know, the better the movie is. John Carpenter absolutely delivered with this movie, and though it feels a bit like a Spielberg, Carpenter gives it his own special touch. The acting is really good, and all of the characters do a great job with their roles. What makes the movie so fun is that the characters don't know who to trust, and it gives the movie so much suspense and such a nervous feel. Everybody obviously wants to live, but they have trouble figuring out who can be depended on and who can’t. I especially liked Kurt Russell in this one. His acting was great, and I loved the commanding traits that his character had. The greatest part of the movie was easily the effects and makeup. It was actually pretty scary in certain scenes, and the effects apartment did a phenomenal job of creating the Thing. The design of the Thing was super good, and though it changes looks and shapes throughout the movie, each one is insanely good. Overall, this movie is extremely well made. The soundtrack compliments the intense story really well, and the Thing absolutely terrifies on screen. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
