Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013-2021)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

  • This was a hilarious show all the way through, along with a great story and fantastic characters. Because it was done by the same people who did The Office and Parks and Recreation, it had a very similar feel. It wasn’t a mockumentary, but it still had the same workplace feel. I loved the story throughout each season, as it remained constant in good content. I liked how each episode had its own plot, but the stories were also connected in a few ways. I think one of my favorite parts of the show was how almost every season ended with a cliffhanger or a major story change. It leaves you on the edge of your seat, and gets you excited for what’s to come in the next season. Each season was great, and I liked them all except for the last one. I thought Season 8 just wasn’t good, except for the last two episodes. I just didn’t care for the episodes that much. One thing the show did a really great job of regarding the episodes was the comedic yet serious issues. I liked how there were some episodes that were just dumb fun, and then there were the episodes that present real life issues that one needs to take seriously. It’s a breath of fresh air for a comedy show to take certain issues with a really serious note. It’s a nice change of pace from all the other funny bits, and though the episodes are serious, they still have an enjoyable tone to them. The characters in this show were also great for that reason. They all had their own unique and funny personalities, but could also present their emotion and serious sides extremely well. My favorite main character was probably Boyle, but I have to give major props to Doug Judy. He was absolutely hilarious, and every episode he was in was something special. This show is similar to The Office and Parks and Rec in terms of character development and attitudes. Each person has something about them that progresses over the course of the show, which is great. It keeps the show fresh and interesting. I also really love how this show is based in the NYPD. I’ve always enjoyed cop shows/movies, so seeing a comedic spin on one is entertaining. I also love how you get to watch actual police situations, and that also keeps the show fresh. However, the police protocol is absolutely horrible in this show, and a lot of it really makes me cringe. But it’s still fun to watch. Overall, this show is pretty good, and I’d definitely recommend it to those who love comedies. This show is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
