Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar (2021)
Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar
The only reason I wanted to watch this was based on a recommendation from a family member. I’m not always a super huge fan of comedies from the 2000’s going forward, especially ones that are over the top with language and sexual innuendo. Though this movie occasionally has those moments, it wasn’t as bad as I was thinking it might be. I actually really enjoyed it. It took me about 15-20 minutes to get into it, because the first little bit started a little shaky. But it slowly picks up, and then goes full speed until the very end. It was consistent with delivering hilarious lines and situations. There were definitely a couple parts that just felt a little boring, but the good scenes definitely outweigh the bad. Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are absolutely awesome, and were literally born for these roles. Every single time they are on screen, they steal the spotlight. I also enjoyed seeing Damon Wayans Jr, though his role was limited. The writing for the characters was great, which causes this to be one of the best comedies I’ve seen from recent times. It still has its weak moments, but it’s extremely solid all around. Good writing, great scenery, funny characters, and the best part, it’s not super vulgar. Yes, it’s stupid and corny, but it’s good. I know I’ll definitely watch this again, and I’d probably recommend it to most comedy fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
