Suicide Squad (2016)
Suicide Squad
I definitely enjoyed this movie way more the second time, even though it’s still pretty crappy. I don’t think it’s as bad as many people make it out to be, and I personally like it. Obviously, The Suicide Squad is a huge step up from this movie, but I still think this one is fun to watch. You definitely enjoy this one way more if you don’t look at it too seriously. It’s got a fun yet dramatic story, even though I’m not a fan of the whole “magic/enchanted demon” element. It’s a little too far-fetched for me, but I still like it. Of course, I could say the same thing about The Suicide Squad. It’s hard to explain. It’s fun, but choppy. Anyways, one of two high points is the characters. I really love seeing several villains that you don’t always see in live action. I love Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, plus others (like El Diablo and Killer Croc). You also get a great first look at Amanda freaking Waller, played by the legendary Viola Davis. She radiates such awesome power, and I love her character so much. Also, getting to see some Batfleck and Flash is amazing (and the post credit scene is exciting, plus a great tease). One character complaint I have is Jared Leto as Joker. He doesn’t do as bad a job as I thought, but it’s still not great. I would’ve liked to see a better design, and he doesn’t hold a flame to his Snyder Cut version. The second of two high points is the soundtrack. Not only is the original score great, but the use of several iconic songs, such as Seven Nation Army and Bohemian Rhapsody, is cool. It adds a great modern and contemporary feel to the movie. I have a big issue with many of the effects and CGI. They’re either good or bad. Some scenes are super sweet, and others are just so ridiculous that it’s laughable. But, like I said, I like this movie because it’s fun, even though it’s definitely not the best. I’d probably only recommend it to DCEU fans, unless you just like crappy superhero/supervillain movies.
