Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Everything Everywhere All at Once
My popular opinion: this was an extremely well made movie. My unpopular opinion: it was confusing, too much brain overload, and absolutely bored the heck out of me. Now when it comes to the multiverse, I usually like it. Endgame and No Way Home are great examples of multiversal stories I enjoyed, but in this movie, it just hurt my head. There were several scenes that I really enjoyed, and a few specific moments that were awesome and funny. But, as a movie as a whole, I just couldn’t do it. It started off pretty good, and I was thinking I would like it, but it just lost me so many times. But just because I didn’t like it doesn’t make it a bad movie. I thought the story was very fun and extremely unique (if you’ve seen it then you know exactly what I’m talking about). Obviously, the multiverse is a crazy concept that is cool to think about, but in this movie, I just couldn’t wrap my head around the events that occurred. It just felt so crammed, and, quite literally, everything everywhere was happening all at once. I very much enjoyed the entire cast, however. The acting jobs from Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan were so spot on, and I particularly enjoyed Ke. It’s great to see him make a return to acting, which actually won him some awards because of this role. They all did a great job of displaying their emotions, and you really got a feel for their characters. Jamie Lee Curtis was also pretty great, as well as Stephanie Hsu. The costume design was absolutely fantastic, as well as the set/world designs. There were so many fantastic shots and transitions. I really loved the scene where you get a really quick glimpse of hundreds of different universes, and it worked so perfectly. One of my favorite parts of the entire movie was Racoonie. The fact that Ratatouille, my favorite animated film of all time, was referenced and mirrored in this movie was so awesome. The entire score was also absolutely fantastic. I would easily say it was one of the best scores of 2022, and it provides so much feeling to the movie. The inclusion of Clair de lune was really cool as well, as I believe it’s one of the most beautiful songs ever put together. And the effects and CGI of the movie were so good. They added a great fantasy element to the movie, which helps give it a more fun feel. But, despite all the great things I just mentioned, I just couldn’t stand this movie, and I definitely don’t think it’s one I’ll want to watch anytime soon. However, I would still definitely recommend it to all sci-fi/fantasy fans. It’s a really great watch if you enjoy this stuff, although it can get confusing, and for me, very boring.
