The Coffee Table (2024)
The Coffee Table
I’m kind of at a loss for words right now. Take the worst emotional feeling you’ve felt, and that’s this movie. I didn’t know much about it going into it, so everything that came up was a surprise. And man, is it gonna stick with me. It was only 90 minutes long, but it packed in more than a lot of modern horror movies do. My head is still reeling. I know exactly what I just watched, but at the same time, you’re left in disbelief and shock. It’s crazy. The story is so simple but punches you right in the gut. It’s also a very interesting blend of horror and extremely dark humor. Despite being completely devastated, I still laughed at some parts. The movie is technically labeled a black comedy, which I can understand, but it’s still more horror than comedy. Not even horror, because it’s not scary. But it’s as disturbing as I’ll get out. Whatever you think this movie is about, you’re wrong. There’s great performances, especially from David Pareja, and he really sells it. The amount of uneasiness and despair he put out was amazing. The whole movie felt that way. From the second “it” happens, until the very end. Holy cow. I’m gonna stop here because I don’t wanna give anything else away. Like I said at the beginning, it’s seriously gonna stick with me, and my mind is forever changed. I’d recommend this to all horror/black comedy fans. It’s heartbreaking and gut wrenching, but you can still have a good time, if that’s your sense of humor. I can’t remember a movie where I was horrified and also giggling that much. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
