Cop Land (1997)
Cop Land
I actually enjoyed this much more on a rewatch. The first time I watched it was a year or two ago, and I finally got around to watching it again. It was good the first time, and even better the second time. I don’t think it’s anything spectacular, but it certainly provides interesting characters and an interesting story. I like the way it follows conspiracy, and how it’s buried deep in the town and the cops. You never know who to trust. Everything unfolds, and you get pulled into each event and the outcome. It’s pretty well written, though there’s a couple little bits that feel a tad bit slow. I also think the acting drags it back a bit, though not by much. The cast is absolutely stacked with Stallone, De Niro, Keitel, Liotta, and several more notable names. I’m not throwing shade at any of those actors, but they all seemed a little bland. There are some genuinely good moments, especially from Liotta, but there’s also not a huge amount of emotion except for a few scenes. It wasn’t bad, just not as expressive as I would want it. Overall, this movie has a good focus on behind the scenes of conspiratorial cops, which makes it enjoyable. Like I said, it’s nothing super fantastic, but a solid crime movie from the 90’s. I’d recommend it to all crime/action fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
