J. Edgar (2011)

J. Edgar

  • Clint Eastwood definitely did a good job with this movie, and it was a well made biopic. Leo DiCaprio pulled off a really good Hoover, and I very much enjoyed watching him in this one. Both he and Armie Hammer were very well cast, both for physical resemblance, as well as being able to portray their characters well. Although to me this movie definitely felt really long to me, I think that it needed to be the length it is, because there is a lot of story to tell. I really didn’t know a whole lot about J. Edgar Hoover, and this movie definitely sheds light on both his professional life, as well as his personal life. The story was somewhat easy to follow along with, and though I was just a little lost in the beginning, you get a sense and feel for the characters once you get into it. One portrayal I would like to give kudos to is Jeffery Donovan as Bobby Kennedy, and he did such a great job in that role. As for the music, it was alright, not anything too special. One part of the soundtrack I absolutely loved was in the scene at the club, where there was an absolutely beautiful rendition of “I Only Have Eyes for You”, which is actually one of my favorite songs of all time. It was done as a trumpet solo with the band in the background, and it was so nice to listen to, and I’m really glad they added it in. Now that I’ve seen it once, I don’t feel the need to watch it again, but I’m very glad I did, and I think I would probably recommend it for those who enjoy biopics and a bit of history.
