The Truman Show (1998)
The Truman Show
One of the best concepts for a movie that I’ve seen, this is definitely one-of-a-kind. I absolutely loved the story, and it keeps you invested for the entire movie. The way this movie was shot was really good, and it felt very much like a reality TV show. For several of the scenes, I found myself thinking I was actually watching a reality show. The way it was shot in the hidden camera format was really good. This movie really plays with your mind, and it makes you wonder what could be real life. There were a couple tiny plot holes that I noticed, and a few things that were never explained, which I found a little confusing. However, this movie was really written, and it definitely has a great plot. The acting was pretty good, and the actors portraying actors did an awesome job. Usually, I’m not a huge Jim Carrey fan (except for Batman Forever), but I really liked him in this role. He had his comedic moments that made me laugh, but he wasn’t making his dumb faces and stupid voices that he usually does. He was able to play the serious scenes really well, even though he’s often known for his comedy. It’s definitely hard to think of anyone else in this role, and he pulled it off really well. The set design was really good, and the fake town that was built was such a good idea. It created the perfect atmosphere for the movie. The music was really well done as well. Although I didn’t necessarily care for it, it perfectly fit the movie. It had the sitcom/TV feel to it, which is exactly what was needed for this movie. It gives you the effect that you are actually watching a reality show, which is what makes this movie so great. It ends in a really good way, and it feels fulfilling. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this, and it could be enjoyed by everybody, no matter what genres you like. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
