Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985)
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
And Mad Max is back to being weird again. I definitely got a bit spoiled with the second movie, so seeing this one was a bit of a downgrade. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but it wasn’t necessarily good. Yes, these movies are definitely one of a kind, but this one just slightly sticks out like a sore thumb. I’m not sure why, it just does. The story was decent, I just thought it was a little sour at times, and maybe a little drawn out. That’s the best way to explain it. The last 30-35 minutes were pretty good, and brought the classic Mad Max feel. I think it was everything leading up to the last half an hour that was a tad bit boring to me. I loved the production design, though. It really projects the movie as being in a dystopian, run down future with no law and order. The extremely odd cast of characters was great again, and seeing Mel Gibson return was fun as always. He is the Road Warrior. The one and only. The sets, props, costumes, and action scenes were all pretty awesome, and I respect the effort from the entire crew. Special shoutout to all the stunt guys and extras on this. Overall, this movie definitely lacks some elements, but it’s enjoyable for the most part. I just didn’t hit as hard as the previous one did. Will I watch it again? Probably not, unless I do another Mad Max marathon. I think I would only recommend it to die hard action/sci-fi fans.
