Unbreakable (2000)
Unbreakable
I think I’m in the minority here when I say that this movie doesn’t lead anywhere and it barely has a plot. Yes, that might be a hot take, but I don’t care, I didn’t really care for it. It just felt so slow, more like 2 and a half hours rather than the hour 45 that it is. It went on and on and on, and like I said, didn’t lead to anything. There wasn’t hardly any character development until the very end. Even then, it was a lame twist that I honestly saw coming, and the characters basically remained the exact same. I don’t think the writing was bad, it just wasn’t executed in the best way. That goes for the acting as well. Samuel L. Jackson was decent, but Bruce Willis was stale and dry. He had about as much personality as a piece of wet cardboard. I will say this, though: I absolutely loved the way the film was shot. It felt so much like a comic book, and you can very clearly see some comic book themes all throughout. That aspect was really cool and well done. But besides that, nothing else really grabbed me. I’m kind of going in circles, and I don’t feel like I have much more to say, so I guess I’ll just end it here. I think if I come back to this movie in the future, it’ll probably stick out more than it did. But for now, I’m not a total fan. I’d probably still recommend it for certain mystery/thriller fans, but again, not a huge fan.
