Anchors Aweigh (1945)
Anchors Aweigh
Both Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly really made this an overall great movie, and the music was really good as well. I particularly enjoyed the music because several songs had a Gershwin-esque sound to them. Of course, Sinatra’s voice was golden in this one, and he really put a lot of love into some of his solo songs. And Gene Kelly’s infamous scene with Jerry Mouse was really well done, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Mary Poppins got inspiration from this movie. The scenes with the cartoon characters were extremely well made for its time, and although it didn’t totally match with the style of the movie, it was really fun to watch. For a 1945 film, the quality and color was really good, which didn’t make this movie seem old at all. The majority of the movie was very entertaining, and there were only a couple scenes that were slow and a bit drawn on. I would definitely watch this one if you enjoy movies like It Happened in Brooklyn and On the Town. I would easily recommend it for those who like old musicals and comedy. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
