Fear Street Part One: 1994
Not every book-to-movie adaptation is good. This is one of them. I’ve always loved R.L. Stine and his Goosebumps book series, so I don’t doubt that the Fear Street novels are good. However, the movie itself wasn’t too great. It just seemed like it was trying way too hard to be retro, and it felt like a cheap made-for-TV movie. Sometimes corny, cheesy horror movies are absolutely awesome. But this one wasn’t. I could never get into the story at all, and it felt like a generic slasher movie with some supernatural elements. There were a couple moments that I generally enjoyed, such as the opening (which parodied ‘Scream’ (1996)). It was cool seeing Maya Hawke. The rest of the cast was garbage, though. The acting was goofy and felt played for laughs, despite the serious situation. The characters sucked, and none of them were likable at all. For me, at least. There’s really not much more to say, other than it just felt like an R rated Disney channel horror movie. I know it’s one I probably won’t watch again, nor would I recommend it.
