Ghostbusters (1984)
Despite what I’ve heard (and now seen) of this movie, I do think it’s a tiny bit overrated. It’s not that I didn’t like it, because I did, but it didn’t hit as hard as I thought it would. For some reason, it felt a little slow to me, but not too slow. Just enough to where I would check the time occasionally, but still be into it. If that makes sense. It also felt very cheesy at times, though it was still well made. At times, it felt like a Goosebumps episode, just a higher budget one with actual acting and funny dialogue. That’s where the movie excelled greatly. The writing was pretty good all around, although the finale was a little too fantastical. It felt a little outlandish, even though the entire movie is about supernatural stuff anyways. But that’s just me being very nitpicky. Easily the best part of the movie was the ad libbing by the actors. Bill Muray and Dan Aykroyd are funny enough by themselves, but then throw in Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis, and you’ve got yourself a show. There are some very memorable lines throughout this thing, and Bill Murray is the standout. I just love that man. The special effects were pretty great, with a lot of physical makeup, props, and sets. It has such a classic 80’s look to it, and it’s a look more movies should have. Sure, it was goofy looking sometimes, but that’s what makes them enjoyable and fun. More supernatural comedies need to study this movie and take some serious notes. Finally, I loved the soundtrack, with the Ghostbusters theme being iconic and catchy as always. I’d recommend this to most comedic horror fans, and though there were a couple things I got bored of, I’d definitely watch it again. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
