How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (2024)
How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies
Oh wow. I had no idea what I was getting into going into this. I knew nothing of the premise and nothing of the actors. The only reason it was on my list of films to watch (from 2024) is because it was Thailand’s submission for Best International Feature Film. Let me tell you this, the fact that it wasn’t nominated is an absolute crime against humanity. This one touched me deep in my soul, and I can’t totally explain why. Well, I can, but not to the fullest extent. Everything about this just feels like a warm hug, even the sad scenes. It delivers a great message on family, relationships, trust, and love. Where you learn that money doesn’t make you rich, but your friends and family do. It’s funny because when you start the film, you (or at least me) kind of root for M to get the inheritance, but by the end, it doesn’t matter at all. You enjoy the characters (specifically M and Amah) so much that you get wrapped up in their feelings and thoughts, and nothing else matters. Money doesn’t matter, material things don’t matter, just love. That’s all I can say about the story. There’s great life lessons hidden all around, you just have to feel them. The performances from Billkin and Usha Seamkhum were grounded and full of depth. Soon, you come to think that the characters of M and Amah are your own family. It’s such a beautiful relationship that starts rocky but ends on the highest note. Especially the final few scenes. Oh man. They just hit, and they’re gonna stick with me for a long time. I could go on, but I’m still processing the greatness of what I just witnessed, so I’ll leave it here (for now). All I’m saying is that it was easily snubbed from a nomination, and it also has an extremely good chance of winning the Berry Award for Best Foreign Film in a few weeks. I guess we’ll have to see. I’d recommend this to all drama fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
