Blue Valentine (2010)
Blue Valentine
Although I was a huge fan of Daddy Gosling in this movie, it was a bit boring throughout several scenes. I did think the story was good, and although I like romance movies, this just wasn’t my pace. I did like some of it, but several parts just never really grasped me. It also took me a bit to get into it. However, it has a good story and great characters. It’s structured kind of similarly to The Notebook, in a sense that you get glimpses of both the past and present. It bounces back and forth between the two, so it’s an interesting way to learn more about everyone. It was also kind of painful to watch, but in an emotional way. Seeing the disputes between Dean and Cindy is sad, but you also see the times they were happy. It kind of plays with your emotions, and you’re constantly wondering whether their relationship will make or break. I very much enjoyed Gosling’s performance, and his physical and mental changes from young Dean to older Dean was really good. You can really see the changes he goes through, as well as his mental and alcohol struggles. He has yet to give a bad performance, and although I’m not a huge fan of the movie, I still really enjoyed his role. The music was decently good, though sometimes a bit corny. But it still adds both a happy and sad feeling to the movie, which matches perfectly with the plot. Overall, this movie was solid, although it’s not one I think I would watch again. I’d recommend it to drama/romance fans, especially if you like Daddy Gosling.
