The Strangers (2008)
The Strangers
Undeniably a cult classic, but far from being a perfect movie. It’s about what I expected, especially considering it’s a late 2000’s slasher film. It’s got that almost modern feel, but just nostalgic enough to have the classy horror feel. Does that make sense? It does to me. But anyways, I’m definitely not a super huge fan of this movie, but I did mildly enjoy it. I’m a sucker for slasher movies, and this one does stand out a little more than your average one. I think it’s just the mystery behind the masked trio. You have zero backstory, zero information, zero anything on them. It’s great. Not everyone needs a motive or background info. That’s essentially what the story is. Unknown killers who seemingly kill just to kill, and it’s very open ended. I guess some would find that lame or boring, but it has a very uncomfortable edge to it. The acting wasn’t that great, but it wasn’t as horrible as other movies. I enjoyed seeing Liv Tyler. Overall, this movie is strong in the sense of mystery and thrills, but there are moments that felt slow (especially the beginning). If you haven’t seen this, you’re not missing out, but I’d probably recommend it to most slasher fans.
