X-Men (2000)
X-Men
I’ve waited way too long to watch this movie. I figured with ‘Deadpool 3’ coming out a few months down the road, it’s finally time to go through these movies so I can appreciate Hugh Jackman’s return. I also know that with the multiverse story, I need to actually understand things, so here I am. Anyways, let’s get on with the actual movie. I liked a solid amount, although there were a couple little bits that felt a little slow. It was exciting, new, and dare I say, revolutionary. I really love early 2000’s superhero movies, because the corny and cheesy vibes that they bring are awesome. Now, I don’t think this movie is perfect or anything. It’s not the best I’ve ever seen, but very solid nonetheless. I think the main reason I’m giving it a B+ overall is because of my so-called “corny and cheesy” feel. Some of it felt very silly, while still maintaining a serious tone. And it wasn’t overloaded with comedy, which I liked. Early Marvel is just very hard to beat. In fact, in many ways, early Marvel is far better than the MCU. But that’s just me. The story of this one was well written, with a great introduction to some characters that I’ve never even heard of. I knew Wolverine and Cyclops, so seeing new faces was really nice. It was such a diverse group of characters, and they felt very far apart from current Marvel. They just don’t make movies like these anymore. The special effects were pretty solid for the year it was made, as well as a great inclusion of practical effects and makeup. I honestly think that practical effects and makeup are a lost art. It’s what makes these movies different. Overall, it was pretty well made, with great heroes, great villains, and a fun story. I’m very excited to work my way through the franchise. I’d recommend this to all superhero fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
