Little Women (2019)
Little Women (2019)
What a beautiful film. I was a little skeptical at first, because I didn’t think I would enjoy it too much, seeing as I haven’t read the book. But I was blown away, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Greta Gerwig is an absolute master at her work, in terms of direction and the passion she puts into her projects. Even though this film is adapted from a book, she still puts her own touch on it and makes it new and interesting, considering there’s also three or four ‘Little Women’ film adaptations before this one. I won’t go into specifics about the story, mostly because, as I just said, there’s several films and the actual book. If you want to know about the story, go check out one of those. In terms of story layout, it works pretty well, although the non-linear storytelling was a little confusing at points. Not horribly, but some of the time jumps felt a tiny bit out of place. But besides that, the structure is awesome. The acting was amazing from everyone involved, and the Oscar nominations were well deserved for Ronan and Pugh. Such a stacked cast that provides depth, humor, and tons of emotion. The characters are awesome, and you grow to love them all and feel a special connection for each one. Personally, Amy was the one I identified with the most. I don’t know why, but she stuck out to me so much more than everyone else. My last few notes are that the cinematography was gorgeous (the scenery and setting was superb), the costume design was impeccable, and the score by my boy Alexandre Desplat was so spot on. Overall, this film is one of the best I’ve seen in the last five years, and I’d recommend it to all drama/romance fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
