The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
The third movie of The Conjuring series, this one is the weakest of the three. Although there were some bits that I really enjoyed, a lot of it was just kind of dumb. I never really got into the story, which I was surprised by. The first two movies were great, so I was expecting the same thing, but it was a let down. I did really like the story (which, like the others, is based on true events). Although it wasn’t very gripping, it was still pretty interesting. One thing I really liked about the movie was how it compared images from the film with the images from the actual events. It helps push the point of experience. And I LOVE how an actual recording of David’s exorcism played over the end credits. Hearing it for yourself is cool yet absolutely terrifying. I both hate it and love it. The characters were great, and I was happy to continue to see the lives of the Warren’s. Versatile actor Patrick Wilson did an awesome job again, as did Vera Farmiga. They are so perfectly cast for their roles. The acting was very good all around, and several of the scenes were very convincing. The music wasn’t anything impressive, although very enjoyable. Although it sounds a bit like every other horror movie, it still has a spooky sound to it. The effects were pretty good, and I absolutely love how they used an actual stunt woman to do the exorcism scene. There was some CGI done on David’s face, but his actual body was the body of a young stunt woman, so almost the whole scene was entirely practical. There were some pretty good scares, and although the movie seemed a bit bland, I like how it focused on some deeper meaning behind possessions. Overall, I don’t think I’d watch this one again, although I’d recommend it to horror fans.
