Home Alone (1990)
Home Alone
This is definitely one of my favorite Christmas movies, and although I like the second one better, this one is still super fun and entertaining to watch. I really look forward to watching it each December, and it’s super hard to beat this classic. I usually watch it multiple times a year, so it’s fair to see that I’ve seen it plenty of times. The story is so entertaining, and if you’ve seen this, then you know what I’m talking about. I like the story because of the way it isn’t entirely focused on Christmas. Although it’s definitely a Christmas movie, a good chunk of the plot, in a way, isn’t actually focused on any kind of Christmas theme. Family plays a key role in the story, but having an 8 year old kid defend himself against burglars is a unique and original idea for a Christmas movie. That’s what makes it so fun. It’s almost like a John Kramer origin story, which is kind of interesting to think about. However, as a movie, this one definitely has some dumb and seriously impossible moments. There are also a couple minor things done with the characters that I didn’t care for. But I love the stupidity of Harry and Marv. Watching them get absolutely wrecked by a “kindygartner” is easily the best part of the movie. The entire cast is pretty great, as well as the acting. Macaulay Culkin as Kevin was perfect, and there are very few other people I would want to see in that role. He definitely made it his own. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern were great, and like I said, their stupidity is hilarious. Easily the best part of the movie, however, is the score. Not only is it one of the best scores in a Christmas movie, but I’d go as far to say it’s one of the best movie scores of all time. John Williams absolutely blows the audience away with his work in this movie, and I could rant all day about it. The main theme is super iconic, as well as the airport scene. So much of the music is bouncy and intense, as well as several parts that are slower and more heartfelt. Overall, this movie is awesome, and I always laugh my head off and have a good time. I would definitely recommend it to all Christmas lovers. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
