An American Werewolf in London (1981)
An American Werewolf in London
I think when people think of werewolves, or werewolf movies, this is probably the first one to come to mind. It’s funny because I’d never actually heard of it up until last year, and it’s kind of amazing that I hadn’t. I can certainly understand why people love it so much. The practical effects are absolutely awesome, and it reminds me of movies such as ‘The Thing’. A very different premise and different monsters, but the same kind of vibe. The werewolf design is fantastic, and I love how you can tell it’s not real, but at the same time, it feels so lifelike. A million times better than CGI could ever do. Bring back practical effects to Hollywood! The story is decent, but nothing crazy. If you asked me what the movie is about, I’d literally just say “look at the title”. Although I really enjoyed the practical effects and makeup, nothing else really jumped out at me. The characters were kind of lame, and the acting was a little cheesy. It certainly wasn’t bad, it’s just that the non action scenes were slow to me. Overall, this movie is pretty good, and a good one time watch. I’d probably recommend it to most horror/comedy fans.
