Dawn of the Dead (Complete Cut) (1978)
This is legitimately one of the most entertaining movies I’ve ever watched. For the entire movie, I was completely invested into it, and most everything about it was extremely fun to watch. From the very beginning to the very end, it constantly keeps the story rolling forward, and the effects were really good. Although the zombies basically just had on gray makeup for their look, it gave them a certain sympathetic feel to me. In most zombie movies, the zombies are extremely gory, bloody, and beat up. They are made to feel like complete monsters and mankillers, whereas in this movie, it’s simply a different shade of skin. I actually really like that because it gave me the feel that they could easily blend in, and it reminds you how they were once human, and had a life and soul. Easily the greatest part of the movie was the blood and wound effects, which were absolutely AWESOME. Almost each and every zombie death scene was so amazing and fun to see, because the graphics were really well done. Plus, being able to see a bunch of zombies get absolutely wrecked is super satisfying. There was one scene in particular where the makeup and goriness was awesome to watch, but definitely was a little hard to look at. The setting of the movie was also awesome, because a good chunk of it took place in an abandoned mall. Being able to watch the characters turn it into their home and take advantage of all the stores and supplies was awesome. It also gave the movie an even more creepy feel, because it was just a giant building that was completely quiet, which gave it an ominous feel. The music was also really, really good. From the very first song, I already loved the soundtrack, and I especially loved the end credits song. Overall, I highly recommend this movie, and it’s a perfect one to watch right around Halloween. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
