Friday the 13th: A New Beginning
Despite liking this a little bit more than the previous movie, I definitely think it’s the worst of the five I’ve seen so far. The story wasn’t necessarily bad, but at a point, the continuation of an already troubling storyline just stops working. It picks up a few years from the fourth movie, with Tommy being the central character. I really wasn’t a fan of his. He just kind of made the whole thing seem weird. The entire first half of the movie was slow and boring (with only a little bit of fun sprinkled in). However, the last 40ish minutes were pretty fun. Not as good as the first couple movies, but it’s a fun final chase. The kills are pretty good, even though the action feels extremely similar to the other movies. The end also has a nice little twist. One big complaint I have was the characters. Basically everyone sucked, except for Reggie. In fact, he’s the MVP of the entire franchise. But the acting was horrendous and none of the characters were anything special. The makeup, props, and special effects were decent, though. Always fun for a corny 80s horror flick. Overall, it’s definitely not my favorite, and easily the worst of the first five. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re doing a Friday the 13th binge.
